Parachute Adams

Fly Pattern

Parachute Adams

Dry

About this Pattern

The Parachute Adams is arguably the most versatile dry fly ever tied. The white parachute post makes it easy to track on the water while the grey body and mixed hackle imitates a wide range of mayflies and midges. If you could only carry one dry fly on Northern Colorado rivers, this would be it.

Materials

  • Hook: Dry fly, #12–20
  • Thread: Grey 6/0
  • Tail: Mixed brown and grizzly hackle fibers
  • Body: Grey muskrat or superfine dubbing
  • Post: White calf body hair or poly yarn
  • Hackle: Mixed brown and grizzly, parachute style

Fishing Tips

Grease the post and hackle only—let the body hang below the surface film for a better profile in flat water.
