Overview

Horsetooth Reservoir sits in the foothills just west of Fort Collins and offers a completely different fly fishing experience from the region's rivers. The 1,900-acre reservoir holds trophy-sized trout, largemouth bass, wipers, and walleye. Boat and float tube fishing with streamers and woolly buggers can produce explosive strikes from large fish.

Access Points

Inlet Bay Marina

Main marina with boat launch, rental pontoons, and easy access. Good early morning fishing for trout near the inlet.

South Bay

Excellent float tube and kayak access. Rocky shoreline holds trout and bass early and late in the day.

Satanka Cove

Quieter northern end of the reservoir. Great for waders on the rocky points early in the season.

Dixon Cove

Shallower cove with submerged structure. Bass fishing is excellent here on warm summer evenings.
